CapoCalc helps you determine where to place a capo in order to match the key of other instruments, and a printable table is also provided to show the most common settings. The CapoCalc area of the website gives some information on when capos are useful.
ChordMatch provides candidate chords that match a particular note. The purpose is to suggest chords that "fit" a melody. You enter a note (by name) into ChordMatch, and the tool gives the names of chords that include that note. The chords are grouped into "more common" and "less common". If you ever have trouble figuring out a chord in a song, ChordMatch can help by suggesting alternatives to try. The ChordMatch section of the website also provides information on how to effectively use the tool.
ChordSpell gives the names of chords after you enter notes into the tool. There are two versions of the tool. In one version, you enter the letter names of notes and the chord name is then displayed. Up to four alternative names are shown, where appropriate. The second version of ChordSpell allows you to enter notes by clicking on a fretboard diagram. A recent upgrade gives you the option of specifying alternate tunings for the fretboard. By doing this, you can name chords from unusual guitar tunings, a mandolin tuning, or tunings from any instrument with 3-6 strings. The website also provides information on the chord names, and on how to use the tool.
