CLAUS BOESSER-FERRARI

Born in Bellheim/Rheinland-Pfalz, Claus Boesser-Ferrari started playing electric
guitar in various local bands at the age of fourteen. In addition to that he took
lessons in classical guitar at the Speyer Conservatory. In 1980 his ensemble
won first prize in the annual competition sponsored by "Deutsche Phonoakademie"
and subsequently went on tour with Joan Baez.
Claus Boesser-Ferrari also toured as a soloist at home and abroad, such as
in France, Switzerland, Austria, the U.S.A., Brazil, Nicaragua, and Russia. In the
meantime he has completed four albums, has written various compositions for
drama and movie productions (Nationaltheater Mannheim, Stadttheater Heidelberg,
Schauspiel Hannover). His latest album features mostly the 12-string guitar, exploring
new dimensions of this instrument in a virtuoso manner. His performance on the
six-string guitar equally testifies to a wide range of stylistic interests and the mastery of
his instrument. In March 1997, Alexander Schmitz, a music critic for the Akustik-Gitarre,
has put it that way: "Indeed, Boesser-Ferrari liberates this rather difficult instrument from age-old clichés. Surpassing boundaries that so far have limited the 12-string guitar to its percussive function, he opens our ears, creating an
awareness that this instrument has its orchestral sides as well - a far cry from Kottke and company."
